BATTERY BACKUP ARCHITECTURAL SPECIFICATIONS Emergency exit signs shall be Dot Matrix LED type with Light Emitting Diodes as the light source. Signs shall have a normal operating rate of not more than 5 watts (single-faced) and not more than 8 watts (double-faced). UL listed operating time shall be no less than 12 hours (single-faced) or 8 hours (double-faced) in flash mode. UL listed operating time shall be no less than 6 hours (single-faced) or 4 hours (double-faced) in non-flash mode. Signs shall have a UL Listed recharge time of not more than 24 hours to insure rapid return to readiness. Signs shall be UL listed as "Suitable for Damp Locations"; not only for protection from dampness, but to insure the use of higher quality components and more reliable circuitry, regardless of the intended environment. Circuit board material shall be FR4 (glass epoxy) or higher quality to insure both durability and a temperature expansion/contraction rate close to that of the copper circuit tracings. Circuit board shall be conformal coated to provide corrosive resistance to dampness, humidity, dust, and/or fungus conditions. Sign circuitry shall include voltage regulation to protect display LEDs from transient voltages. Sign circuitry shall include a potentiometer for factory adjustment (compensation) for naturally varying zener values to extend battery life expectancy. All signs must include low voltage disconnect (LVD) circuitry to automatically disconnect the battery from load to prevent continuous current drain of the battery during extended power outage. Signs shall have knock-out chevron arrows. Arrow covers are not an acceptable substitute for knockout Arrows. The display LEDs shall be protected with both an aluminum stenciled faceplate and a polycarbonate shield. Shield removal will require the use of at least one tool (screwdriver, etc.) so it may not be easily removed by hand. A toll-free service phone number shall be printed on each sign. Signs shall be UL Listed under the 924 Standard, and meet or exceed OSHA requirements, the NFPA Life Safety Code, and the National Electric Code. CHOICES:
